Shot count of The White Stripes - Icky Thump

214 shots

4:13 long and 214 shots means an average of 1.18 seconds per shot

The main shot types are: close ups of instruments and faces during the chorus and fast pace sections; and mid shots of Jack White (the meat) while the story line is going through the verses.

there aren't many editing techniques used in this video. Fast pace editing is key to keep up with the songs tempo. a lot of the colours have been altered so red is prominent throughout the video. It also makes the characters look very pale to the point where they look ill. This is just the look the band go for to stay as white as possible to make the vibrant colours in the videos and performances look even brighter.

You can tell this genre is rock from the music and the chorus shows the instruments used and the style of the band to be very fast and all about the music appose to the lyrics trying to tell a story or anything like that, which is more the style of pop or indi. The audience for this type of music is going to be late teens to middle aged people as a generality.

Music Video Analysis 2 - The Prodigy - Omen

This music video is very fast paced and shows the band playing at a venue somewhere. The video is edited so that when it is the verse and very fast paced, the video is cut to the beat with flashing images and lights constantly flashing and changing on the screen. when it comes to the chorus, and the music slows down slightly, the video stops flashing all the time and focus's on the singer while the chorus is on. The main performance (even though its not much of a performance) is both the singer and the little girl who is supposed to be the Omen, playing the xylophone. This is one way the performance links to the images, with the little girl when its just the xylophone playing because all attention is on her. Another way is the chorus when just the singer is singing, and the camera slows down and just focus's on him because this is what the music does as well. Finally, when the verse is on, the camera is flashing between different band members and their instruments when they are dominant in the performance.
Music video analysis 1... Eminem - Mockingbird

This song was about how Marshall Mathers was coping with raising his two little girls aswell as trying to make a living out of the music industry. This is exactly what the video shows in the background. it is flicking between old videos on the screen of his kids growing up and past memories he has like a christmas he remembers, so at this point, there is a video of a christmas with his wife and kids. Symbolism is a huge factor in this video. It wasn't created to make lots off extra money for him, it was made to show how much of a struggle it was for him in the past and how much he loves his kids, no matter how it comes across in the media. it also shows Kim in court over her drug addiction when it comes to this part of the song. it also shows how when he is alone in his empty how reminiscing over baby pictures, he is looking through old photo albums. Because this music video was created only to help put across the point for his kids, it doesn't really have any sounds beats or technical aspects that cut to the beat of the music video or anything to take focus from the song and images on screen.
